GROCERY RUN CLUB x BEET CHICAGO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

When a project like this comes around, you just say yes. Grocery Run Club, a community organization founded to provide fresh produce to under-represented communities, collaborated with BEET Chicago to create their first community garden in North Lawndale.

Through interviews with BEET Chicago founder, Kelley Keffer, we learn about North Lawndale’s origin and how getting kids and parents involved is the first step to getting the community to take ownership of the garden.

Next, we go into the garden with Lucía Leon, farm manager at Herban Produce. Responsible for laying out the beds and planning the crop, Leon also talks about her ties to the neighborhood of North Lawnlade.

Lastly, from Julian David of Julian Davíd Studios, we learn how the community garden came to be. From the purposeful design of the garden beds to how it’s impacting the community it’s planted in. Check out this gratifying four-part series!
