SOHO HOUSE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE : ADESHOLA MAKINDE

“When I started collaging about three years ago a lot of the magazines that I was drawn to were magazines that focused in an intentional way on Black life.”

Adeshola Makinde, a Nigerian-American visual artist based in Chicago, draws from an extensive archive of Jet and Ebony magazines to create canvas and mixed-media collages to showcase Black life and Black joy.

These works and more are currently showcased in Makinde’s first solo exhibition at the Stony Island Arts Bank in partnership with Anthony Gallery, “Is where it’s at!”
